Herefordshire Zero Carbon and Nature Rich

The county-wide action plan and how you can make a difference

Herefordshire Archive and Records Centre

Herefordshire Archive and Records Centre

  • The UK's first archival storage building to be built to the Passivhaus standard, a rigorous standard that works by insulating the building to the most effective levels
  • The award winning building is energy efficient, with running costs significantly less because of the leading edge Passivhaus design
  • The building utilises a mixture of mechanical ventilation heat recovery (MVHR) and natural ventilation strategies depending on the season, and how the building is being used
  • The nature of the simple, well-insulated building design¬†provides a comfortable, consistent working environment with a constant supply of fresh air all year round
  • Solar panels were also added to the building. These are estimated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by a further 17 tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per annum
