Becky - sharing and learning from others
My name is Becky and I live on a smallholding with my family a few miles north of Hereford. We moved here two years ago for a bit of land and some space to develop myself as an horticulturist. We sure got that in spade loads here with an ancient flower meadow, an established orchard and a wealth of wildlife...
Despite having my hands more than full with the smallholding, I joined the Herefordshire Climate Challenge Team (HCCT). Like so many people, I felt powerless, at a loss to know what to do about this climate emergency that we are all facing and I just wanted to do something, at least join the conversation.
In the HCCT I found a very diverse group of people from all over the county and from all walks of life - Herefordshire is an amazingly vibrant and happening place! We came together to share and explore practical, doable ways to reduce our own carbon footprints and hopefully to support others to do the same.
I joined to contribute my understanding of meadows and gardens, how wildlife and soil health contribute so positively to reducing carbon, and I came away with a whole raft of knowledge about all sorts of useful and important things from reducing food waste to car sharing. There is a wealth of knowledge and support in this glorious wild county of ours and I congratulate Herefordshire Council for bringing people and information together and sharing it as widely as possible.
